INFO: Police Unity Tour
Wednesday, March 20, 2013
Dear Sponsor and Supporter,
Every 54 hours a law enforcement officer dies in the line of duty somewhere in America totaling between 150 and 165 deaths each year. Nothing can ever replace these men and women to their family and friends. On May 9th, 2013, I, Police Officer Gianni Cacioppo, will join hundreds of other law enforcement officers on a 300 plus mile bicycle ride from Florham Park, NJ to Washington, DC as part of the Police Unity Tour. The goal and mission of this event is to raise awareness of Law Enforcement Officers who have died in the line of duty and to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial and Museum that is located in Washington, DC. I am writing you to ask you for your support for this event and cause.
I have been a Police Officer for the Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Department in Parsippany, NJ for the past 5 years. This is my fourth year participating in the Police Unity Tour. Prior to becoming a police officer for Parsippany, I was a Union County Sheriff’s Officer in Elizabeth, NJ for 8 years with a total of 13 years of service as a law enforcement officer. I have received a valor award from the 200 club, which is an award for an act of bravery beyond the call of duty. I come from a law enforcement family background as well. My brother, Joseph Cacioppo, a Police Sergeant at the Linden Police Department in Linden, NJ, will be joining me in this years Police Unity Tour.
The Police Unity Tour was founded in May of 1997 and currently consists of over 1600 riders/members. These members come from all types of law enforcement agencies world wide from local municipal police, federal police, state police, international police and department of corrections. Each member of the police unity tour selects to ride for a fallen officer. This year, I will be honoring and riding for Virginia State Trooper Kevin Carder Manion (EOW February 16, 2006).
Please read the attached 2013 Sponsor Form that further describes the Police Unity Tour. For more details and our goals, go to policeunitytour.com. Then, determine how much you will donate to help sponsor me in this event. My goal is to raise $1750.00 dollars in order to participate in this years 2013 Police Unity Tour. Please help me reach my goal this year so that I can honor my fallen officers and RIDE FOR THOSE WHO DIED. Your donation can be mailed in along with the enclosed form or go directly to https://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/gianni-cacioppo/2013-police-unity-tour---chapter-i.
Sincerely yours,
Gianni Cacioppo
